I came across this quote today that really struck me.

"The most important conversations you will ever have are the ones you have internally. What you say to yourself becomes your truth ... What you say to yourself inwardly affects the way you experience life outwardly. Be kind with your words to yourself, because they are incredibly powerful."

It made me reflect on the narrative in my own head – how easy it is to be our own toughest critics.

But it also reminded me of something I often see in my work – the words leaders use within their organization are just as powerful. The tone of a memo, the phrasing of an email, the choice of words in a meeting – these all shape culture and perception. In fact, the language leaders choose becomes the truth of their organization.

Because it's not only about what you say, but also about how you say it. Here are a few ways to make your words count.

  • Speak with purpose – Know what you want to communicate, and why. Choose words that reflect empathy, honesty, and authenticity.

  • Lead with clarity – Avoid jargon or mixed messages. The clearer your communication, the stronger your leadership.

  • Deliver lasting impact – It’s true that people will remember how you made them feel. So let your genuine voice do the talking.

Your authenticity speaks louder than any words.
